conk•to•pod (kõngk - tƏ -põd )
n.

Conktopus, Conktopod, Conktopi...Legend has it that the first Conktopods came from Davy Jones’ Locker and are now flourishing globally. Highly intelligent shelled marine mollusks of the class Cephalopoda, such as the octopus, squid, cuttlefish, or nautilus, having a large head, large eyes, prehensile tentacles, and, in most species, an ink sac containing a dark fluid used for protection or defense. Masters of camouflage, various Conktopi have the ability to replicate most surfaces and surroundings. Some Conktopi have evolved to escape the water and to live on land as obligatory air breathers in the shade of trees and other secluded environments along the shores.
adj.
Of, relating to, or belonging to the class Conktopoda.

Conktopods are awesome little creatures that really speak! They tell a story, they describe a person, and they are fantastic conversation pieces that will soon be available in many different forms; free standing figures, wall hangings, cohesive collaboration pieces, and many more which you will be able to see at our Facebook, Instagram or Etsy accounts!
Upon ordering, we will send you a small questionnaire about the person it is intended for, you may, if you like, include photos that you feel capture that person well. We can also customize a shell from your own collection because we want your Conktopod to be as personal as possible! Another fun way to customize your Conktopod is to have it express a theme, career, or hobby, such as; musician, doctor, ballerina, barber, knitter, architect, crafter and so on.
Please feel free to message us if you have any inquiries about our creations or if you are interested in ordering because Conktopods make wonderfully personal gifts for a friend, boss, coworker, or loved one!

Conktopi

My notes on creating these little monsters:

Conktopi came to me after going to Sea Life Aquarium for my 30th birthday and my family and I got to interact with the resident octopus, Octopus Prime. Then randomly discussing escargot at the seafood counter at our local Wholefoods, they gave me four shells filled with the paste. After cleaning out the shells, I brought out some clay and the rest is history! I don't make too many nowadays but it's something I'd love to dive deeper into in the future. I'm also learning how to create molds to make replicas in order to keep prices down because I range wildly on the time I take to complete one of these.

You'll also find other non-nautical sculptures included in this gallery.

Thanks for looking!
